Services

Line Editing

Line editing focuses on refining your manuscript at the sentence and paragraph level for flow, clarity, and tone, and typically takes place after developmental editing, once the structure and content are already in place, and before copyediting.

This service includes the following:

  • Revising sentences and paragraphs for clarity, coherence, and style

  • Improving rhythm, word choice, and readability

  • Eliminating wordiness and awkward phrasing

  • Strengthening transitions between sentences and paragraphs

  • Maintaining consistency in tone and voice

  • Identifying minor inconsistencies in logic or narrative and suggesting revisions to improve flow

Copyediting

Typically performed after line editing and before proofreading, copyediting ensures accuracy and consistency by correcting grammar, punctuation, spelling, and usage while applying style guidelines.

This service includes the following:

  • Mechanical corrections: correcting errors in spelling, grammar, punctuation, and usage

  • Consistency checks: checking for uniformity in spelling, hyphenation, capitalization, numerals, and formatting

  • Clarity adjustments: making light edits to improve readability and refine awkward phrasing

  • Internal consistency checks: maintaining consistency in names, terminology, timelines, and details

  • Cross-reference verification: verifying internal references (e.g., tables, figures) and checking citations for accuracy

  • Sequencing: ensuring lists, headings, and similar elements follow a clear and logical order

  • Basic fact-checking: flagging or verifying easily confirmable factual details using reliable sources

  • Querying: noting unclear or potentially incorrect content and posing questions for the author

  • Style sheet preparation: creating a style sheet to document editorial decisions and maintain consistency

Proofreading

Proofreading is the final quality check, focusing on catching lingering errors in grammar, spelling, punctuation, and formatting before the work is published.

This service includes the following:

  • Final error correction: catching remaining issues in spelling, grammar, punctuation, and usage

  • Typographical corrections: fixing typos, repeated words, and missing or incorrect characters

  • Formatting checks: ensuring consistency in spacing, indentation, fonts, and layout

  • Consistency review: catching any remaining inconsistencies in style, capitalization, or formatting

  • Cross-checking elements: verifying page numbers, headings, captions, and other front/back matter

  • Light style sheet reference (if provided): applying established style decisions for consistency

  • Querying: flagging anything that appears unclear or incorrect at the final stage

Getting Started

You can begin by reaching out through the contact form and sharing a bit about your project: your manuscript type, word count, timeline, and the kind of support you’re looking for. From there, I’ll follow up with any questions and next steps.

I offer a sample edit of up to 1,000 words. This gives you a chance to see how I work and ensures that my approach is a good fit for your voice and goals.

2

Scope & Timeline

To get started, you’ll send your full manuscript as a Word document so I can read through it and get a sense of your project. After reviewing it, I’ll provide a clear outline of the scope of work, along with a timeline and quote.

3

During the Edit

As I work through your manuscript, I keep your voice and intent at the center of every edit. I’ll leave comments where helpful, ask questions when needed, and flag anything that may benefit from your input, so you feel supported and informed throughout the process.

4

Delivery & Follow-Up

When your edit is complete, you’ll receive:

  • A fully edited manuscript with Track Changes

  • A clean version with edits accepted

  • A style sheet (for copyediting projects)

You’re welcome to reach out with any questions about the edit after delivery. My goal is for you to feel confident moving forward with your work.
